How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh Longer

How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh Longer

There’s something magical about bringing home a beautiful arrangement—the colors, the fragrance, the feeling it adds to your space. At Little Peony, we pour our hearts into every floral design, and we want you to enjoy your blooms for as long as possible. Whether you’ve just received one of our custom arrangements or picked up a bouquet at the market, here are a few easy tips to help your flowers stay fresh and vibrant for days to come.

1. Trim the Stems

Before placing your flowers in a vase, give each stem a fresh cut at a 45-degree angle. This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently. We recommend trimming about 1 inch off the stems and repeating the process every 2–3 days.

2. Use a Clean Vase

It may sound simple, but a clean vase makes a big difference. Bacteria can build up quickly in old water and shorten the life of your flowers. Wash your vase with soap and warm water before each use, and rinse thoroughly.

3. Fresh Water is Key

Change the water in your vase every 2 days—or sooner if it starts to look cloudy. Clean water helps prevent bacteria and keeps your flowers looking bright and healthy. Add fresh flower food if you have it, or a homemade mix (see below!).

4. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat

Keep your flowers in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or appliances that give off warmth. Too much heat will cause your blooms to wilt more quickly. A shaded corner of the room is often perfect.

5. Remove Wilting Flowers

As some blooms naturally fade, remove them from the arrangement to prevent the spread of bacteria to healthy flowers. This keeps your bouquet looking fresh and polished—and helps the remaining flowers last longer.

Enjoy the Beauty, Longer

With just a little care, your flowers from Little Peony can stay beautiful for up to a week or more. These simple steps not only extend the life of your bouquet—they help you enjoy the color, scent, and joy that flowers bring to your space.
